Fairytales and feminists

This article from the smh caught my eye this morning - "Fairytale defies the feminists". Princess Mary of Denmark and her handsome Prince Frederik have been visiting Sydney over the last few days, and the papers have reported a flurry of excitement. Of course, it probably helps that Mary is OUR royal - the girl from Tasmania who really did marry the prince.

But does all this interest really imply that women ultimately want a prince to come and rescue them from the "drudgery" of normal life? Is it strange to be curious about what life as a princess is really like? And even if we do dream of such fairytales, is that so shameful? It seems to me that feminism is often used to box women (and men) - to tell us how we should think and feel, rather than encouraging us to celebrate the unique people we are. What do you think?
