It's extraordinary to me too! We drove west across Canada to Calgary last summer, and it's an incredible contrast to see the rockies after days of driving through the prairies. And an even bigger contrast to Australia. I climbed Mt Kosciuszko a few years ago, but climbing mountains here is an entirely different prospect.
